Baby Manu o Kū

The Manu o Kū, also known as the white tern, is a native Hawaiian seabird that can often be seen perched high in city tree branches or gracefully soaring just above the ocean’s waves. For Native Hawaiians, the Manu o Kū has long been one of the most important birds in voyaging and navigation. Each morning, these birds fly out to sea to fish and return to land by evening to feed their young. Their presence has always been a vital sign for navigators, when the Manu o Kū is sighted far offshore, it is a clear indication that land is near.
